2. Tell us a little about your blog and why you started it.
I have just recently started a blog. I started my blog to showcase all of my materials on TpT with the Common Core State Standards. My blogs purpose is to demonstrate my products as well as provide the tags for CCSS. I have a B.S. in Elementary Instruction and a MS in Curriculum and Instruction. I love learning, making, creating, implementing, and analyzing curriculum!

3. How long have you been teaching?
This is my first year teaching kindergarten in a Catholic Choir school. I've taught at the preschool level for two years. So three years combined.

4. What grade do you teach?
Kindergarten!

5. What is your favorite thing about teaching?
Kindergarten is my favorite grade because of the challenge of having a group of 20-25 kids from all different types of backgrounds. I enjoy the differences of each and every kid. My other favorite part is when student has an “ah-ha!” moment.

6. What else would you like to tell us about? (Special topic you are interested in blogging about.) I’m definitely interested in blogging about curriculum pertaining to the common core. One interest to me is the new Science standards that will be coming out soon. I would love a reason to research and write about them.

7. Where else can we find you?

Teacher Blog Tuesday - May 21st

It's teacher blog Tuesday!

Today's guest blogger is Renee from:

Mrs. Mathis' Homeroom

1. Name of Blog and Link?
Mrs. Mathis' Homeroom

2. Tell us a little about your blog and why you started it.
I write about anything and everything that has to do with teaching, but focus mainly on substitute teaching, and teaching during a long term contract (for now). I also write about teaching in French and teaching French as a second language. I offer freebies through my blog and am currently working at setting up my store through there as well. I love regular features and recently finished a 6-part series on interview questions and started a Monday Math Game series.

3. How long have you been teaching?
When I graduated from university, I worked as an Official Language Monitor in three French Immersion schools in Alberta. Then I was hired as an Educational Assistant and it solidified my desire to become a teacher. I couldn't get enough of school and everything that had to do with it! I started substituting 6 years ago, after moving back to Ontario. I now work for two catholic school boards, one in French and one in English, and teach everything between Kindergarten and Grade 12. I am lucky enough that I live in a small community and that I get a lot of daily calls for work. The teaching jobs in Ontario are very scarce right now and people are having a hard time just getting on an occasional teacher list. One day, soon I hope, I will have my own classroom, but until then, I’m happy being a substitute teacher.

4. What grade do you teach?
K-12, but prefer Grades 4 and up. My teachable is Français. I also have a very strong background in visual arts and my dream job is to be a high school visual arts teacher.

5. What is your favorite thing about teaching?
My favourite thing about teaching is the bonds that I create with my students. I have been in some situations outside of school when students have found me in a crowd while out in public and have come to me for help or advice because they knew they could trust me. I love to get to know all of my students (literally hundreds of them) and what’s going on in their lives.

6. What else would you like to tell us about? (Special topic you are interested in blogging about.)
I would love to guest blog about being a substitute teacher or about teaching visual arts or French.

Teacher Blog Tuesday - May 14th

It's Teacher Blog Tuesday! Today's guest blogger is:
1. Name of Blog and Link?
 Apples and Papers

2. Tell us a little about your blog and why you started it.
After blog stalking for a months I decided to take the plunge and contribute to the blogging world. I loved that I did this. It has made me a better teacher as I am also finding new ideas and striving to help my students. My blog name was inspired by one of those students I will never forget. Everyday he would give me his apple from his breakfast as he didn't like apples. For almost half the year it was unusual for me to not have at least three apples on my desk.

3. How long have you been teaching?
I am in my third year…well technically 2.5 years. I taught first grade for 1.5 years. This year I moved up to second grade with my first graders.

 4. What grade do you teach?
Currently I teach second grade. I always thought first grade was my love, but I am finding out I enjoy second grade just as much.

5. What is your favorite thing about teaching?
In one word it is the students. I love when the times they just want to keep learning more and more. The moments when they finally understand, the moments when students feel so proud of themselves for accomplishing a task. I also am always amazed by their creativity. I love that everyday my career allows me to help influence the world in hopefully a positive manner. I can't think of anything better.

6. What else would you like to tell us about?
I am finding out I love to teach math. I am also looking for interesting ways to teach it. I also have been a part of our school's garden project. This is a project I want to further expand through the years.

7. Where else can we find you?
I am on TpT.

Teacher Blog Tuesday - May 7th

It's Teacher Blog Tuesday!

1. Name of Blog and Link?
Third Grade Galore

2. Tell us a little about your blog and why you started it.
My blog is a mix of teaching ideas and family fun. I love sharing ideas from my classroom, but sometimes I add in stories about my family and everyday life. I think sharing a little bit about my life outside of school helps to show the type of person that I am. The main reason I started my blog was to share my ideas. I love reading all the other blogs and I thought it would be fun to get in on the action. The one thing that really surprised me with blogging is how it has helped me become a better teacher. My blog is a way for me to self reflect on my teaching and examine what does and doesn’t work in my classroom.

3. How long have you been teaching?
I am currently finishing up my 13th year of teaching.

4. What grade do you teach?
I teach third grade, but have also taught first and second grade.

5. What is your favorite thing about teaching?
I love that every day is different. I don’t think I could sit in an office and do the same thing day in and day out.

6. What else would you like to tell us about?
I love math! Many of my blog posts are about math. Next year my district is adopting the Common Core standards for math and I’m excited. You should see our current standards….maybe 10 pages worth of stuff. I’m an eco-mom. I enjoy finding ways to help our earth and I’m sure you will read a blog post or two about it in the future.

7. Where else can we find you?
