I am wondering Wednesday

Hey friends!  I had a conference today so I enjoyed the day with my colleagues and got to leave a little early!  I had a question in my inbox when I got home about how to create materials for TpT & TN that I wanted to take the time to answer.  I'm linking up with Erica Bohrer over at Erica's Ed-Ventures so you can learn all you need to know to get started on TpT!

When I first started creating materials, I had no idea how people were creating these AMAZING materials!  I started out using SMART Notebook software because I was used to using it to resize and manipulate my clip art and then I would copy it into Microsoft Word.  It caused things to be blurry and not the right size.  Microsoft word does not let you put things anywhere you want on the page and it made it hard for me to get things where I wanted them.   Finally, somewhere I read to use Powerpoint.  Whoever figured that out is a genius!  Powerpoint, much like the SMART Notebook software is super easy to manipulate so I could get things just where I wanted them. Here is a brief tutorial on how to do it. (I've got to learn how to make a video so I can explain it rather than type it!)  But I hope this helps some of you!

Open Powerpoint, obviously :)

The first thing you need to do is change the size of the slide so that it's the size of paper so that everything prints out correctly.

Ashley Hughes at The School Supply Addict has a great tutorial about this - you don't want to squish the background!

Add some text and clip art.  A lot of times I will add frames here or white boxes and layer the other stuff on top of that.

I hope that helps someone out there to create products!  When I started making stuff on TpT, I never dreamed I would be successful, but I am so thankful for all the success I have had!  If you have a question, shoot me an email and I will be glad to share anything I know!

  3. Thanks so much for this tutorial. It was a tremendous help. I had NO idea how to do all that, but have now made a product based on common core standards for 3 year olds, based on our state guidelines. Gotta do 4 year olds next. Thanks.

  5. Thank you for taking the time to do this. I've been teaching myself Powerpoint and have found it much easier than Word. However, I didn't know about the formatting advice you gave in the first few slides. It's because people like you are willing to share your experience, that those of us who are a bit tech phobic are able to venture into unfamiliar territory with more confidence.
