Spring Break Has Arrived!

Spring break....at last, you are here!  Today was a crazy busy day (aren't they all!) We have been working so hard to get all of our sweet students assessed this week and thank goodness we got it done just in the nick of time.  My sweet students have grown so much!

For a little fun this morning, we did some jelly bean addition.



The students sorted their jelly beans and then filled in their worksheet with how many of each they had to complete addition sentences.  They really enjoyed it and it was just another great way for us to practice addition.   The best part was watching them try the jelly beans.  Clearly the black and white were the worst to them!     AH! I'm so jealous - happy Spring Break! I taught in NC - Charlotte, actually, for several years prior to moving back to GA. LOVE the work NC has done to move toward the Common Core. I just signed up to guest blog, if you'll have me! :)

    It's my last day of break :( It went way to fast!

    Anyways, I love your jelly bean addition activity! Unfortunately this year I have several students with REALLY bad allergies. One child can't touch ANY food that his mom doesn't send it. It makes all these super fun activities very difficult for me this year.

    But I'm so getting this for next year! Hope you have a wonderful spring break! :)

    Wow you are one brave woman doing all of these fun Easter activities!! LOL I love the egg hunt below and the numbering of the eggs. That is a great idea. And then the jellybean addition is fantastic. I am so jealous! Our district just recently placed a ban on all food in the classroom (due to allergies and diabetic children) and now I can't do any of these fun activities anymore! =( I am glad to see you guys having so much fun!

      Oh gosh, how depressing :( I had a kid a few years ago with a red dye allergy but he didn't stay long, but any kind of food terrified me. I love to do food stuff because it gets them excited! I just stopped by your blog and I am your newest follower!

    I love jelly bean math and I am so glad our district has not yet banned all food in the classroom like in some other places. Break out the jelly beans and you have kids convinced that the same old math they have been doing all year is new and fun. We did a lot with jelly beans on 10 frames this year and working with combinations of ten. Of course we also did estimation, jelly bean addition and everyone's favorite subtract (eat) the jelly beans.

      I should have done some subtraction with jelly beans, but at that point I think we were all spent lol. Next year I will try that!
